Acherontia atropos

Acherontia atropos belongs to the Sphingidae Family. It is well known that these moth butterflies are attracted by light, and when it is a firelight this becomes a fatal attractation: flying close around the flames they burned their wings and ended up falling into the fire. A romantic folk interpretation of this behaviour is that moths feel a desperate love for light, because their existence is entirely bound to darkness, so that they are ready to run the risk of burning alive to get close to the light they long for. Moths perfectly symbolize the impossible love.
